New to mountain biking? Looking to make some new trail buddies? BMA’s group rides are always fun – and all of our rides are free and open to the public.

Rides start in April, continue through September, and take place on fun trails throughout Boulder County. Choose from our Knobby Wednesday for beginning riders, our Gurlz Ride for the ladies, Trails & Ale intermediate to advanced riders, or an Inclusion ride for BIPOC or Latinos.

Ride Descriptions

Knobby Wednesday

Level: Beginner
Meets: Every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

Join the fun on mountain bikes! These entry-level rides for beginner riders will give you a chance to practice your skills, have fun, and be safe riding trails. Before each ride we will review fundamental tips about riding, then we will head out on an entry-level trail ride. This is a family-friendly ride with two guides so nobody will get left behind.

Gurlz Ride

Level: All levels welcome. Sorry guys… ladies only.
Meets: Every Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.

Ladies, come on out for our fun rides and post-ride get-togethers! We love to ride and enjoy meeting other women who do too. We also support each other as we progress in our bike skills. At the trailhead, we split into two groups: beginner and intermediate/advanced. Our rides have a sweep so you won’t get dropped. Join us!

Trails & Ale

Level: Intermediate to advanced
Meets: Every Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

This intermediate/advanced level ride is a great mid-week tonic. We’ll split into 2 pace groups on this no-drop ride, each with a guide. We finish every ride by gathering at a local establishment for food and good cheer. Explore trails that are new to you and find a new riding buddy or two. Join the fun!

Inclusion Rides

Level: All levels welcome.

BiciFiesta: 2nd Thursday of the month at 6 p.m.
BIPOC: 4th Thursday of the month at 6 p.m.

BMA is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion in our community. We’ve added these rides to create a safe space for riders that are underrepresented in Boulder, led by Ride Guides of these communities. Who is welcome? Anyone who identifies as a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of color), Latinx, and their allies.

Become a Ride Guide

 BMA RIDE GUIDE PROGRAM

Our Ride Guide program would not be possible without our volunteer ride guides! Here are five reasons why YOU should consider becoming a Ride Guide:

1. Meet new riding buddies.

Easily #1, this is one of the best and quickest ways to meet more friends who RIDE.

2. Ride lots.

Leading rides give you a fun and exciting reason to get out on your bike, and riding with individuals of varying abilities will ultimately make you a better rider too.

3. Get schwag.

In return for leading only 4 rides during the season, you’ll get a super sweet Ride Guide jersey, access to BMA pro deals on gear, and an end of season shindig just for you.

4. Support BMA.

If you appreciate the trail advocacy that BMA does on your behalf, this is a great way to “give back”, by doing something you’d be doing anyway: riding your bike!

5. Become an ambassador for mountain biking.

By demonstrating great trail etiquette and stewardship on social rides, you’ll help to preserve our trails as well as prove to our community that mountain bikers are great trail users.

ABOUT BEING A RIDE GUIDE

We ask that all Ride Guides commit to signing up to guide (lead or sweep) 4 rides each season. You must become a BMA member to guide a ride for insurance purposes.

As ride guide you don’t have to be fast and you don’t have to be at the front of the group. You are responsible for being the guide of the group. As a representative of BMA this includes a variety of tasks from arriving at the ride to greet the riders, to coordinating the route & group, making decisions about the weather, etc. Once the ride begins, you decide if you should ride at the lead or hang back with some of the other riders. Additionally, most of our rides have two Ride Guides, both a lead and a sweep.

We offer a Ride Guide training every season to ensure that you feel prepared to lead a ride. RSVP for Tuesday, April 2, 2024 Annual Training.
