NTD-Buchanan Pass Project Moved To Coulson Gulch
Join BMA, the US Forest Service Boulder Ranger District, Wildlands Restoration Volunteers, Indian Peaks Wilderness Alliance, Redstone Cyclery and area partners on National Trails Day to work on the Coulson Gulch Trail.
The Boulder Ranger District wants to celebrate NTD with a half-day work event followed by lunch and a raffle. The event includes trail maintenance and environmental education.
This project, which was originally to be located on the Buchanan Pass Trail has been moved to the Coulson Gulch Trail due to snow and hazarardous trees at Buchanan.
Starting at Coulson Gulch Trailhead northwest of Lyons we will be working on this multi-use trail doing general maintenance including drainage maintenance, tread rehabilitation, and trailhead kiosk educational updates.
To get to Coulson Gulch Trail, you have to drive into Larimer County, but the bulk of the trail is actually on the far northern section of Boulder County.
Special Directions to Site: 9.5 miles north of Lyons on Hwy 66/Hwy 36 towards Estes Park. Turn left (west) onto CO Rd47/Big Elk Rd for 3 miles. At the Y, turn left onto FR118/Johnny Park Rd for less than a mile to event staging area. Please carpool. Road is rutted but passable to mid-clearance vehicles.
