Ride Description

Since we got rained-out last week, let's try this again!

While the sun sets around 8:30, this is the time of year to ride up at high elevations! This trail is one of the highest elevation trails in Boulder County.  Combine thin air with some technical sections of trail and you have a challenging ride!  That said, it's a beautiful area and one of the few times of the year it can be ridden afterwork.  We'll ride the trail as an out-and-back and attempt to cover as much trail as possible before dark.

Be prepared for ~2 hours of riding; plus, I probably don't need to say this, but be prepared for the possibility of cold rain.   Expect cooler temps at 9000'.    Make sure your bike is in good condition and that you have plenty of air in your tires.   Pinch flats are common here, and any mechanical problems can either have us not reaching the end of the trail, or returning in the dark.

Please RSVP for this event so we have a good headcount for the number of riders!

Get with the program, and carpool!   Let's meet at the Justice Center parking lot (SW corner, near the creek trail) at 5:20, and leave no later than 5:30.   The Justice Center parking lot is at the SE corner of Canyon and 6th St.

Individuals who want to pre-plan carpools may add comments at the bottom of this page (click "add new comments").

Important Info about the Rides:

  1. All riders MUST wear a helmet, bring water, and have a trail-ready bike. Riders should also carry the usual basics: spare tube(s), a pump, tire levers, a chain tool, and basic Allen wrenches.
  2. All riders ride at their own risk; group leaders take no responsibility for rider safety/injury.
  3. Riders must sign a liability waiver once during the season. If this is your first ride of the season, please bring a signed waiver with you or be prepared to complete one at the meeting spot.
  4. This ride launches at 6:30 pm so be at the trail head by 6:15 pm, dressed and ready to roll by 6:30 pm.
  5. If the weather is iffy, make sure to check the website after 4:00 pm on the day of the ride for updated info.  If you signed up for the ride, you will be notified by email if it's cancelled.
  6. For planning purposes please sign up (see below if you're signed in) for this event ahead of time. This is not mandatory, but helps us with planning. You need to be registered as a website user and as a member of the BOSS Rides Group.   This does not require BMA membership.....but why wouldn't you want to be a member?
  7. This ride is limited to 24 riders.   If you're not signed up, and we reach 24 riders, you will not be premitted to join us.

If you have any trouble figuring any of this out, drop us an email at

2013/07/24 - 5:30pm - 8:00pm

Rain or Shine

Even though it's currently raining in the Nederland/Ward area the ride is still planned to go as scheduled.  I've often found the best riding conditions right after a storm passes through.  If the weather is bad at the trailhead at 6 then we can make the call to cancel at that time.  Worst case scenario is we get rained out but stil grab a beer and some BBQ at Wild Mountain.  :)
