MTB Skills - Level 2

Ride Description

BMA's MTB Techniques Level 2 class builds on the skills participants learn in the Level 1 class. It also provides riders with some experience out on the trails or those who could use review of proper techniques and mountain bike handling an excellent opportunity to take their riding ability to the next level. Learn to navigate tight turns, corner with confidence, and learn wheel lifts that will help you conquer obstacles like roots, logs and just about anything else that you may come across along the trails.

Maximum 6 students per instructor. No matter how you ride your bike, you're about to ride it better!

We love to ride and we know that you do so we try to keep our expenses low and then pass that savings onto our members. Our goal is to make our clinics accessible to everyone and to grow Boulder's awesome cycling community.

What you need

You should have decent basic bike control. Your bike should fit you and be in good working order. It should be a mountain bike. You need to have a helmet and gloves. Additional padding is encouraged. Minimum age to participate is 14 years old. For kids under 14, see our Dirt Riders series.

Important info

  • All riders MUST wear a helmet, bring water, and have a trail-ready bike.
  • All riders ride at their own risk, group leaders take no responsibility for rider safety/injury.
  • Riders must sign a liability waiver once during the season. If this is your first ride of the season, please be prepared to complete one at the meeting spot.
  • For permitting and planning purposes, please sign up if you plan to join us.
  • BMA has a 48 hour cancellation policy - no refunds or credits will be given with less than 48 hours cancellation notice.

Our Instructors

Kristin Butcher has taught clinics across the country and you can read her column, Butcher Paper, in BIKE Magazine.

David Holshouser, bike patroller and coordinator of BMA's Mix & Mingle ride, is a familiar face on the trails. He is an IMBA Level 2 Certified Skills Instructor and also teaches skills for the Naked Women's Racing series.

Dawna Graham is BMA's Program Director and an IMBA Level 2 Certified Instructor. She also teaches skills for the VIDA MTB series (formerly Beti Allride), and Naked Women's Racing.

Art Schwadron has been mountain biking for 25 years and working on other 2 wheel skills for even longer. He is still making progress and excited to help with yours. Art is an IMBA Level 1 Certified Instructor.

Elias Bachman taught mountain biking skills camps throughout the country with Dirt Camp. Hall Ranch is his favorite local ride - a little bit of everything.

Marty Caivano has taught dozens of skills and mechanics courses in Colorado and Utah through Dirt Camp, BMA and private instruction. Most recently, she was the staff mechanic and a skills coach assistant at the Ladies AllRide women's weekend held in Copper Harbor, MI. She is an IMBA Level 1 Certified Instructor.

Carlie Mock has been riding since 2008 and has raced ultra distances throughout the Midwest and competed in La Ruta de los Conquistadores. She has a passion for riding all styles of bikes and introducing people to the sport of mountain biking. Carlie is an IMBA Level 2 Certified Instructor. She is also a ride lead and coach for FAST Kids race team 2010-2012, as well as ride lead for NICA league Golden High School 2016.

Josh Boyd has actively participated in IMBA chapters as a ride leader, and volunteer for MORE in the Washington DC area as well as BMA in Boulder Colorado. Josh has raced his mountain bike sponsored and individually for the past 6 years. He is an IMBA Level 1 Instructor. This is his first year as a BMA instructor.
